Empowering Youth to Make their Voices Heard in their Community: The Citympact Story

Background

Citympact is a digital platform that aims to empower the youth of Generation Z to actively participate in the decision-making process of their community. The platform is designed to provide a simple and accessible tool for young people to express their opinions and concerns on projects and issues that affect their city.

The Problem

The youth of Generation Z often feel disengaged and disconnected from the political and civic process in their community. They may not know how to get involved or feel that their voices are not being heard. This lack of participation can lead to a lack of representation and a disconnect between the youth and the decisions that affect their lives.

Key Insights

Our research revealed that Generation Z is highly interested in social and political issues but lacks the knowledge and resources to get involved. We found that providing a user-friendly platform for young people to express their opinions and concerns would be an effective way to increase their participation in civic decision-making.

Solution

Based on these insights, we created a digital platform that is accessible to all citizens of Generation Z, providing them with a simple tool to make their voice heard on the projects and issues that affect their community. The platform provides a direct communication channel between young people and public authorities, allowing them to have a say in the issues that affect them. The platform is easy to use and accessible, and it allows young people to express their opinions and concerns in a way that is relevant to them.

The launch of the Citympact project in St-Maurice has garnered significant media attention, with local outlets such as Radiochablais, RhoneFM, and Le Nouvelliste reporting on the initiative and its goal of increasing citizen participation in public projects decision-making process.

Impact

Since its launch, Citympact has seen a significant increase in youth participation in civic decision-making. The platform has also helped to bridge the gap between the youth and community leaders, resulting in more effective communication and a greater understanding of the needs and concerns of the youth.

The Citympact campaign in Saint-Maurice, a town of 4,518 inhabitants, has seen impressive results in increasing civic participation among Generation Z. Over the course of 2 months, the platform received 4,442 visits and 1,000 unique visitors. 5 projects were put to the vote and received a total of 788 votes. The platform has also been well-received by public authorities.

Recognition

Citympact has received recognition for its innovative approach to increasing political participation among Generation Z in Switzerland. The project has received the Prototype Fund award from Opendata.ch, as well as the support of "Digital Public Services Switzerland" to implement the project in St-Maurice.
